So of the command on which I have been trained so far, or to be honest that I follow are:

- This way/over here
- Sit (This one is best, as I know I would be getting cheese…yum)
- Lie down
- Stay there
- It’s OK
- Quiet (I really hate this one, why? I want to bark, I have nice voice..)
- Go to your bed
- Leave it (another one I hate, once in my mouth, why should I leave?)
- Come
- Heel (I damn care about this command..)
- Behave (You know when I get this, he he he)

Only good part about these training session is CHEESE… I love cheese.. yummy …

Though I enjoy licking his face and so do my dad (I think so).. but my Mom doesn’t like that I should lick my dad’s face. I tried this with my Mom, but she scolds me..

My ancestors are also known as Teckels, Dachels, or Dachsels. They originated in Germany. In fact, the name Dachshund is German for “badger dog,”. We were originally bred to hunt badgers. Even though I am domesticated (I hate this word) and abundantly pampered, I will maintain and nurture this innate hunting instinct. The long bodies and short legs recognize my breed. This design is the epitome of form following function. We are low to the ground, which allows us to enter and maneuver through tunnels. Our senses are all well developed. We are very brave. And we are very independent.

 

We Dachsies come in two different sizes and three different coat types. Therefore, there are six different types of Dachshunds. I am a standard smooth haired. The smooth haired type is the oldest Dachshund type. When the longhaired variety appeared is unknown but it was sometime during the seventeenth century. The wirehaired type has a much older existence being mention in the fifteenth century. The history of miniatures is much more recent. It occurred during the 1920s in Britain. These are Dachshunds weighing less than 10 pounds. They have become extremely popular and are just as attractive as their standard relatives. Dachshunds come in many coat colors. The three most popular types are red, black & tan(my color) and the dapple although there are a number of variations. One color not permitted by breed standards in a completely white coat.

7. We have a well founded reputation for being rugged and strong. Equally at home in either cold or warm climates.

8. We asks only that we be with you whether you live in a mansion or the most humble abode. We are at your side day and night and we will warn you if any strangers are lurking around.

9. We are the most affectionate, and delights in riding in car or sleeping close to you at night, but we are content with our own bed and a simple cover that he can pull over our head, with just a shiny black nose to show our presence. Just to be near you and show our love for you is all we asks.

10. We are a wonderful companion for you children, and will take a lot of rough play and enter into the spirit of fun, for us we are born comedian. You can trust a Dachshund for they have never been known to betray a confidence.

You know I was especially invited to the party because the hosts also had a pet dog named Aryan.

So to start with, that day when mom started grooming me I thought that she will take me out somewhere definitely and in that excitement I didn’t even eat my dinner though she kept on forcing me. When we reached the venue, I was really thrilled to see so many humans at one place. It was the first time I got a chance to interact with different people. I felt overjoyed. The hosts were really nice and were giving special attention to me. They even showered me with chicken bits. Their pet Aryan was a big black Labrador but I don’t know why he wasn’t interested in making friends with me. Maybe it was because of our age gap. Some of the humans were playing with me and enjoying my company while there were also a couple of them who were slightly afraid of me. One of the girls even asked Dad whether I was vaccinated or not to which dad replied in affirmative. I also enjoyed the loud music and the best part was when I got a chance to shake a leg with humans. I really enjoyed dancing with them in a group. But at last the party came to an end and we exchanged goodbyes. I will always remember the party as cherish it as a memory.

I really like the cool breeze on the terrace. In winters, we used to spend too much time there but now I only spend some time in the evening as it is too hot during the day.

When my mom or dad throws my favourite toy on the terrace, I run and fetch it for them. And when mom is not around I like to roll and make myself dirty there. When the maid is cleaning up the house, I find myself locked in the terrace so that I do not interfere with her work. Anyways I enjoy my freedom at that time. Only I don’t want to be on terrace when the sun is on the head. My mom takes care of that. My dad, when going to his office, always tries to trick me because I want to go with him. He tries to throw my toy on the terrace and asks me to fetch it so that he can leave without me creating a fuss. This worked initially a couple of times, but now I cannot be fooled by this trick. So mom has to literally hold me when dad leaves for the office. I also love to watch the birds and squirrels on the terrace. To tell you a secret, I also wish I might catch them, but they are very clever. All in all, I enjoy my time on the terrace. Love you all, Beetle.

I like to chew my dad”’’s shoes and socks. To that matter I like chewing anything. I love eating eggs and cerelac. I am very possesive about Harsha and Charu. And I love to spend my time in my kennel.

After spending over three months with Harsha and Charu, I have grown a little bit and I have also learnt some new things. I can now sit on command, fetch my favourite toy, come when my name is being called and have also started walking on the leash. I also love to play hide and seek with my mom. Off late, I have also started barking. Now that is some kind of an achievement for me! What do you think…

My parents are also keen on socializing me. They took me to a dog show where I met many of my friends. So I have been busy all the while! “
